DC Week us showed what's possible. Here’s what's next.
Dear Unlock Aid community,
Wow! Last week exceeded all expectations. We were so humbled – and inspired – by the passion and energy you all brought to our first-ever DC week. Dozens of our community members met virtually and in-person to take our message to Congress.
Here's what we said:
With rising threats to our planet, health, food and water insecurity, our challenges are complex and intertwined. Time is running out to solve these and other major global challenges. We need to rewrite the rules for how we do global development, who does it, and who benefits from it.
Lawmakers agreed. Members of Congress from both parties told us they want to work with us to introduce new legislation to reimagine a new future for global development that centers on outcomes, catalyzes innovation, and puts local voices in the lead.
We know what needs to happen next. And we need your help.
We already know what we need to do to save this planet. Groups like Project Drawdown and others have outlined the kinds of solutions we need to invest in and scale up to bring down carbon emissions, improve health and food security, and enhance access to education for women and girls, all while centering local voices. But, because of how the global development system currently operates, many of the organizations best positioned to solve these and other challenges cannot access the resources they need to deliver impact at scale.
Lawmakers challenged us to document the specific barriers that innovative organizations experience when they try to work with USAID, the World Bank, and other global development funders. We also want to document what’s going well so that we can advocate scaling up what already works. Will you share your thoughts and experiences with us?
It couldn’t be easier, just take this two-question survey! It’s super fast and will help so much.
We’re building a movement and we need everyone who cares about the future of global development to get involved. We are looking forward to working with you to rewrite the rules, expand equity, innovation, transparency and accountability, and reimagine what’s possible.
